Amruda Nair did not choose hospitality. She grew up inside it.<\/p>

Her grandfather, Captain C.P. Krishnan Nair, founded The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts \u2014 one of the most significant luxury hospitality businesses in Indian history. The properties he built, the standards he set, and the particular vision of Indian luxury he brought to the world were part of Amruda\u2019s earliest understanding of what a hotel could be. Not a place to sleep. A place to feel something.<\/p>

But inheriting a perspective is different from building one. And Amruda was always more interested in the second.<\/p>

After eighteen years across hotel investment and advisory at JLL, asset management across multiple markets, and a CEO role at a joint venture in Qatar, she had seen Indian hospitality from every angle that did not involve running a hotel herself. She had seen what made properties endure and what made them fail. She had seen owners let down by operators who did not understand their asset, and operators undermined by owners who did not understand their guests. She had seen beautiful hotels with no commercial discipline, and commercially disciplined hotels with no soul.<\/p>

The name Araiya was chosen deliberately \u2014 for what it evokes rather than what any dictionary assigns it.<\/p>

Amruda chose it for its meaning of divine beauty: the quality that the finest destinations in India possess and that the finest hospitality makes possible to feel. Rooted in the Sanskrit tradition of names that carry meaning beyond their sound, Araiya is the word she chose because no other word said what she was building \u2014 places that are not simply beautiful but that carry the particular beauty of a landscape, a culture, and a community in genuine relationship with one another.<\/p>
